Youth Climate Talk: CCIL X Malvern College Hong Kong

CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) held a Youth Climate Talk at Malvern College Hong Kong on September 17, 2025, with a total of 53 Grade 10 geography students in attendance. The theme of the talk was "Climate Justice."

The year 2024 was the hottest year on record globally. The greenhouse effect has led to more severe climate change, bringing not only extreme heat and heatwaves but also increasingly frequent and intense climate-related disasters. We began by discussing carbon reduction policies, giving a brief overview of international carbon reduction targets, China's "dual carbon" goals, and the objectives and main strategies of the Hong Kong Climate Action Plan 2050.

Next, we provided an in-depth explanation of the concept of climate justice, helping students understand—through both international and local examples—how climate change disproportionately harms vulnerable communities, and the importance of a just transition.

Students were actively engaged during the discussion session, demonstrating thoughtful reflection on the topic. We hope they will continue to explore more issues related to climate change in their future school lessons.
