Joinand Grasp the Chance to
Fight Climate Change

The world is on track for 2.4 degrees Celsius temperature rise above the pre-industrial level, despite pledges made at the 2021 Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). Besides, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), there is a 50 percent chance of the annual average global temperature rising 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2027. At the upcoming COP27, How to Keep 1.5 Degrees Celsius Alive would be the key discussion of climate negotiations. Therefore, efforts of mitigation should be highlighted while the importance of adaptation and loss and damage should not be overlooked, in order to create a climate just world.

In the meantime, the Hong Kong government published Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 in October last year. It set out the vision of “Zero-carbon Emissions ‧ Liveable City ‧ Sustainable Development” and outlines the targets and strategies to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050. To Keep 1.5 Degrees Celsius Alive along with youth, CCIL, co-organised with Hong Kong Youth for Climate Action (HKYCA), Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC), Network of Environmental Student Societies (NESS) and V’air Hong Kong, and supported by Hang Seng Bank, to hold the Local Conference of Youth Hong Kong 2022 (LCOY HK 2022). We co-create a platform for youth to get involved in climate change, to connect and empower each other to be global, national and local climate leaders, creative problem solvers, advocates and networkers through knowledge-sharing and networking. There will be a series of games, seminars, panel discussions and interactive workshops. We will have climate youth activitsts from all over the world to share their experiences and passions for climate actions to empower youth in Hong Kong. With all of us embracing a net-zero world, we can grasp the chance to make our hope into action.
