Hang Seng Bank X CarbonCare InnoLab Celebrate Completion of First Solar Power System under “Hang Seng Low Carbon Future - SolarCare Programme” Launch Ceremony
Hang Seng Bank teamed up with CCIL to introduce the innovative ‘Hang Seng Low Carbon Future – SolarCare Programme’. The first project involved the installation of solar panels at the Breakthrough site to generate renewable energy. The power generated will be fed into Hong Kong’s energy grid under the Hong Kong Government’s Feed-in Tariff Scheme, with the resulting financial rebates to be used to fund youth climate education activities to a low carbon future in Hong Kong.
The Launch Ceremony was co-hosted by representatives of CarbonCare InnoLab, Hang Seng Bank and Breakthrough Youth Village. Among them, the sun, electricity and saplings symbolize the important elements of the plan. The use of solar power to reduce carbon emissions. This plan has placed 268 solar panels in Breakthrough Youth Village, which can produce 135,000 megawatts of electricity a year, equivalent to 130 households. Years of electricity consumption, and hopes to teach the next generation of youth the importance of low-carbon living through climate education activities.
After the ceremony, attendees joined the first tour of the solar panel system and viewed an exhibition on climate justice, gaining insights into renewable energy and the impact of climate change on marginalized groups. They participated in an upcycling workshop to repurpose recycled wood to make solar torch lights. A ‘train-the-trainer’ workshop was also held to provide Hang Seng and youth volunteers with the knowledge and skills to serve as guides for the solar panel tour. These and other climate education activities such as tree care workshops run by arborists, green training camps and a youth climate conference will form the ongoing education programme that aims to reach 5,400 young people each year.
