CWCC: Hang Seng Low Carbon Future – Low Carbon Schools Launching Ceremony

Funded by Hang Seng Bank, CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) partners with two schools to launch the “Hang Seng Low Carbon Future – Low Carbon Schools” programme. The first participating school is Aberdeen Technical School (ATS), followed by Caritas Wu Cheng-chung College (CWCC). The programme’s launching ceremony for CWCC was held on campus on October 13, 2025.

As part of the programme, 45 solar PV panels have been installed at CWCC, with a total capacity of 27,000 Watts Peak(Wp). The estimated yield for the first year is 2,900 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Through the Hong Kong government’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, the school will receive rebates for the electricity generated, which will be used to support the climate education programme until 2033. CCIL will also collaborate with the school to organise a series of climate education activities and conduct a carbon audit to help the school progress toward becoming a low-carbon campus.

The launching ceremony was held in the school hall, with full participation from students and staff. Two students opened the event by introducing the guest and inviting the principal to the stage. Principal Au gave an overview of the programme and shared the school’s vision for addressing climate change and promoting sustainability. Following that, Ms Gigi Lam, Programme Manager of CCIl, presented the current state of climate change. She stated that 2024 was the hottest year on record globally, and 2025 is expected to be the second or third hottest. In fact, global average temperatures have reached historic highs, and extreme weather events are becoming increasingly severe.

Hong Kong has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with four key strategies: net-zero electricity generation, energy saving and green buildings, green transport, and waste reduction. By installing a solar energy system on campus, CWCC is contributing to the development of renewable energy in Hong Kong.

CCIL will host a “Solar Student Ambassador” training programme, organise curriculum integration workshops, and promote climate awareness through educational games. In addition, the team will carry out a carbon audit and help the school set clear carbon reduction targets. We look forward to working hand in hand with CWCC to build a greener future!
