Aberdeen Technical School: “Hang Seng Low Carbon Future – Low Carbon Schools” 2023/24 Academic Year Closing Ceremony
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, CarbonCare InnoLab held the “Hang Seng Low Carbon Future – Low Carbon Schools” Closing Ceremony at Aberdeen Technical School (ATS). The event summarised the green initiatives carried out during the 2023/24 academic year and recognised outstanding participants with various awards. It also provided an opportunity to share knowledge about solar energy and other renewable energy sources.
The event began with CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) staff introducing the fundamental concepts of renewable energy to all students. They covered topics such as the definition of renewable energy, global development trends, and the challenges and opportunities in its applications.
Following this, four students who had completed the Solar Energy Tour Guide Training at the Science Club gave presentations on solar energy and introduced the school's solar power generation system located on the rooftop. Their well-structured speeches demonstrated their learning achievements.
Next, the award ceremony recognised students who excelled in various green activities, including:
• “Vegetarian Challenge”: The five students who chose vegetarian lunchboxes the most times.
• “No Air-Con Night”:
- The class with the highest student participation
-The six students who achieved the highest individual carbon reductions.
• “Solar Energy Tour Guide” Training: Nine students who successfully completed the training.
To conclude the event, Gigi Lam, Programme Manager of CCIL, shared insights into future plans. She announced that a carbon audit has already been initiated at the school, with data collection underway. In the coming year, CCIL will collaborate with the school to organise more climate change education activities.
She expressed her hope that ATS will continue advancing its low-carbon transformation and become a low-carbon campus!
