Home Heat Combatting Actions(2)Community Action

What are some ways to cool down your home without costing electricity, like turning up the fan and AC? Our Climate Adaptation for Everyone (CAFE) team has been investigating this with our neighbors.

During our investigation, we have met Nishitani (Asia) Limited who is an expert in utilising material technology to cope with extreme weather. They partner with us with a vision to help residents alleviate from extreme heat using technology. We have discovered a window insulation method that can effectively block heat from entering the indoor space. With the films installed, it can help cool down homes by 3-5 degrees during hot weather.

Going hand in hand with residents from transition housing, we also invited volunteers from Saint Francis University and the Society of Operations Engineers (Hong Kong) to join us in the heat combatting action. Thanks to our energetic students, skilled engineers, and tutorial from Nishitani (Asia) Limited, it was a fun and exciting event where residents and volunteers worked together, chatting about different perspectives all the time.

The CAFE team hopes to reach more residents and get their homes prepared before the summer heat arrives. We aim to work with residents in a more elaborate study on heat prevention for homes.
