CCIL X VTC - IVE (Morrison Hill)

On January 29, 2023, CarbonCare InnoLab conducted a talk about the Trilogy of Climate and Energy Saving Solutions at IVE Morrison Hill.

The talk provided the students with a professional background on climate and energy conservation. The talk was very meaningful to the engineering students, because after listening to the talk, they needed to re-design what they had learned in the talk and apply it to society. For example, they needed to transform the difficult knowledge of climate into a simple lesson for elementary school students and kindergarteners on what climate change is and low-carbon lifestyles.

The talk was divided into three parts. The first part talked about the importance of low-carbon living. Climate change is caused by human activities such as logging, burning, and industrial emissions that trap more greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Greenhouse gases have many serious impacts, such as extreme weather, food insecurity, and diseases, which have irreversible consequences for human beings and living organisms. Therefore, we should promote low-carbon living because it can reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, protect the ecosystem, and limit the rise of the earth's temperature. In addition, the lecturer also introduced how to calculate one's carbon footprint, such as the amount of energy used, the amount of food eaten, and the mode of transportation, and gave suggestions on how to live a low-carbon life in terms of food, clothing, housing, and transportation.

The second part describes the success cases of CarbonCare InnoLab in energy saving. Since the establishment of CarbonCare InnoLab, many of its projects have made remarkable contributions to energy conservation, such as the SolarCare Programme, which provides free installation of solar panels for different organizations to increase the use of renewable energy, and the Energy Care Community Action, which helps replace light bulbs for sub-divided units and the elderly to improve the living environment of the underprivileged and to achieve climate justice.

The third part was for the students to come up with a solution. After listening to the lecturer's explanation, they were given 15 minutes to discuss and share how they would teach what they had learned to the children. Participating students commented that the talk provided a valuable opportunity for young people to experience how to live a low-carbon lifestyle and to use what they learned to influence more people so that low-carbon living can become a popular style of living.

CarbonCare InnoLab is honored to be invited by IVE to promote low-carbon living among young people. In response to climate change, low-carbon living can reduce some of the carbon emissions in our lives, thereby mitigating the negative impacts of climate change on the planet.
