Hutchison Ports Global Climate Fresk Online Card Game

From 1st March 2023 to 10th March 2023, the Climate Fresk online card game was organised for Hutchison Ports by CarbonCare InnoLab, bringing together 155 staff members from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, America, and Australia for 6 days of climate training. The Hutchison Ports staff's remarkable involvement during the event was evident through their enthusiastic participation and engagement in various interactive activities, creating an enjoyable and inclusive experience for all their colleagues. At the beginning of the game, Hutchison Ports employees were split into small groups of 6 to 8 participants and provided with 42 cards. Each card described an element or event related to climate change. The staff members were then tasked with arranging the cards in sequence and drawing arrows to connect cards with cause-and-effect relationships. Once completed, participants were required to give a title to their work that demonstrated the causes, consequences, and effects of climate change. This final step was to guide them to a reflection from the game.

The Climate Fresk game was an engaging and interactive way for participants to learn about climate change and its impacts on the planet. The immersive format of the game made it easier for participants to understand complex concepts and to gain a deeper appreciation of the urgency of the issue. The game provided a platform for participants to collaborate and share their perspectives on climate change by bringing together staff members from different regions, the game facilitated cross-cultural dialogue and guide the participants to reach a consensus towards climate action. This type of collaboration is essential in addressing the global nature of the climate crisis and the need for a coordinated response.

One of the main highlights of the event was the level of engagement and commitment shown by the participants. Many expressed concern about the severity of climate change and a strong desire to take action to build a greener and more sustainable future. In fact, after the course, 86% of participants agreed that climate education and action are important. They also showed their ability to identify practical steps that they could take to contribute to a more sustainable future. The participants shared that playing the game helped them understand the fundamentals and complexities of climate change in various aspects. They recognised that they each had a role to play in shaping the world and were committed to taking individual steps, such as reducing energy consumption to lower their carbon footprint. Some of them also expressed a desire to advocate for policy changes at the local or national level to make a significant impact on the planet. The participants worked towards pursuing carbon neutrality and an equitable world for all. They discussed the possibility of cooperating or engaging in carbon trading to reach optimal solutions. It was inspiring to see their willingness to take action and explore different avenues towards achieving their goals.

The Global Climate Fresk Online Card Game was a success in raising awareness about the urgent need for climate action and inspiring participants to make a difference. The event demonstrated the power of cross-region collaboration and the importance of education and action in addressing the global climate crisis. CarbonCare InnoLab hopes to contribute to the outcome that this event served as a reminder that it's not enough to just talk the talk on climate change - we must also walk the walk and take concrete steps to reduce our impact on the environment and build a more sustainable future.
