Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series (2): Renewable Energy and its Applications
Date: 3 September 2021 (Friday)
Time: 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Mr Ken Tai (Senior Project Engineer of CarbonCare InnoLab)
Ms Gigi Lam (Programme Manager of CarbonCare InnoLab)
(an email with the Zoom meeting room link will be sent to you after registration)
The 6th assessment report published by recently by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations stated that heavy rain, typhoon and heat rate will be much more frequent. The speed of Global sea level rise is the fastest among the recent 3 thousand years. Most extreme weather events are caused by global warming due to human activities. The report “is a code red for humanity”. Reducing carbon emissions actively and keeping the rise of temperature below 1.5°C are important to mitigate climate change.
Nearly 70% of Hong Kong's carbon emissions come from electricity generation, we have to rapidly increase the proportion of renewable energy. Apart from the “Feed-in Tariff” policy, we expect more renewable energy policies to be launched by the government.
In Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series #2: “Renewable Energy and its Applications “, you would be introduced to different kinds of renewable energy and their applications. Solar energy is suitable for large-scale applications in Hong Kong and the speakers will share more details on solar energy, including case studies in Hong Kong.
Whether you are interested in climate change and renewable energy, or interested in green career path or the renewable energy industry, you are welcome to join.
*Attendance Certificate: If you need to apply for an Attendance Certificate, please notify us in the registration form. When you attend the webinar, please use the name you used for registration to login.
Group Registration Available
Group Registrations from organisations are also available. We will contact you to arrange the date. Non-profit organisations and schools are prioritised.

“Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series:
[Session 1] Energy Sources and Climate Change
[Session 2] Renewable Energy and its Applications
[Session 3] Solar PV System: Structure, Installation and Management (for those who have attended Session 1 and Session 2.)
Burning fossil fuels would cause emission of greenhouse gas and accelerate climate change. Replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy lies at the heart of all climate mitigation action, as well as the global trend. As renewable technology continues to improve and the cost of renewable energy generation gradually declines, the total global electricity generating capacity is rising rapidly.
Nearly 70% of Hong Kong's carbon emissions come from electricity generation. To achieve the “Carbon Neutral by 2050” Target announced by the Government, we have to rapidly increase the proportion of renewable energy. The “Feed-in Tariff” policy encourages the use of solar and wind power, and we expect more renewable energy policies to be launched. Knowing more about renewable energy would prepare you for this change.
In order to raise public awareness on renewable energy, especially on solar energy which is suitable for large-scale application in Hong Kong, CarbonCare InnoLab organises “Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series*, sharing knowledge of renewable energy, climate change and solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
This webinar series is divided into 3 sessions, beginning with the basic knowledge of climate change and development of energy, showing the importance of promoting renewable energy and letting participants learn about international climate actions. (Session 1); let participants know about different kinds of renewable energy and its applications (Session 2); and introducing the structure, installation and management of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. It is suitable for students and for those who are interested in climate change or renewable energy, or for those who want to enter the environmental or RE industry. (The webinar series- Session 1 & 2 have a kid version for students of primary 1 – 3 to join.)
