“Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series (1): Energy Sources and Climate Change

Date: 18 June 2021
Time: 2pm - 3pm
Speakers:
Mr Ken Tai (Senior Project Engineer of CarbonCare InnoLab)
Ms Gigi Lam (Programme Manager of CarbonCare InnoLab)
Language: Cantonese

Burning fossil fuels would cause emission of greenhouse gas and accelerate climate change. Replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy lies at the heart of all climate mitigation action, as well as the global trend. As renewable technology continues to improve and the cost of renewable energy generation gradually declines, the total global electricity generating capacity is rising rapidly.

Nearly 70% of Hong Kong's carbon emissions come from electricity generation. To achieve the “Carbon Neutral by 2050” Target announced by the Government, we have to rapidly increase the proportion of renewable energy. The “Feed-in Tariff” policy encourage the use of solar and wind power, and we expect more renewable energy policies to be launched.

In order to raise public awareness on renewable energy, especially on solar energy which is suitable for large-scale application in Hong Kong, CarbonCare InnoLab organises “Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series*, sharing knowledge of renewable energy, climate change and solar photovoltaic system.

In the “Energy Resources and Climate Change“ Webinar, participants learnt about the development of energy sources, the relationship between fossil fuels and climate change, causes and impacts of climate change, international climate actions and overview of Hong Kong’s renewable energy sector.

“Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series:
[Session 1] Energy Sources and Climate Change
[Session 2] Renewable Energy and its Applications
[Session 3] Solar PV System: Structure, Installation and Management (for those who have attended Session 1 and Session 2.)

Knowing more about renewable energy would prepare you for this change.

In order to raise public awareness on renewable energy, especially on solar energy which is suitable for large-scale application in Hong Kong, CarbonCare InnoLab organises “Understanding Renewable Energy” Webinar Series*, sharing knowledge of renewable energy, climate change and solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
This webinar series is divided into 3 sessions, beginning with the basic knowledge of climate change and development of energy, showing the importance of promoting renewable energy and letting participants learn about international climate actions. (Session 1); let participants know about different kinds of renewable energy and its applications (Session 2); and introducing the structure, installation and management of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. It is suitable for students and for those who are interested in climate change or renewable energy, or for those who want to enter the environmental or RE industry. (The webinar series- Session 1 & 2 have a kid version for students of primary 1 – 3 to join.)
