The 6th Cohort of the CATY Community Climate Advocacy Project Presentation and Graduation Ceremony

CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) hosted the Sixth Cohort of the CATY Community Climate Advocacy Training Project Presentation and Graduation Ceremony on 26 July 2025. Ms. Ivy Leung, Executive Director of CarbonCare InnoLab, along with Ms. Helen Yuen, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Hospitality Services of Citibank Group, Mr. Clement Poon, Independent Journalist, and Mr. Kim Ching Chan, Researcher of Liber Research Community, were invited as a special guest to celebrate the milestone of the current cohort and share their experiences with youth during the presentation session.

After several months of climate advocacy training, 24 youths engaged in  diverse activities such as field visits, on-site interviews, surveys, and meetings with affected individuals to gather community stakeholders' opinions and present their team’s climate advocacy project outcomes. The four teams proposed advocacy initiatives addressing current situations or public policies that inadequately consider climate elements, aiming to encourage relevant stakeholders to take more proactive and decisive climate action. The guests provided valuable feedback and encouragement to support their future endeavors in sustainable development. Both the CCIL team and the guests unanimously recognised the four projects as innovative drivers for local youth climate action. The projects are as follows:

Cleaners’ Climate Call (IG: cleanersclimatecall)
Advocating for more equitable climate adaptation policies for cleaners, emphasising their need for health protections and rest areas during extreme weather events.

Eco-Venturers
Advocating for a more balanced climate funding distribution in Hong Kong, the Environment and Conservation Fund should focus on supporting nature-based solutions (NbS), climate resilience efforts, and climate justice projects to foster sustainable growth and improve the city’s capacity to adapt to extreme weather events.

FoodWays (IG: foodwayshk)
Advocating for the government to implement more ambitious food waste management solutions to boost recycling and cut landfill greenhouse gases. Key measures involve increasing public education and engagement, refining pilot food waste collection programs, and exploring new treatment options for food waste.

Live Green (IG: livegreenhk)
Call on the government to tackle unsustainable food consumption by enacting relevant policies, creating a comprehensive green dining platform, and actively supporting sustainable food stores and restaurants. These efforts aim to cut carbon emissions from the food industry and help mitigate climate change impacts.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Ms. Ivy Leung presented graduation certificates to both youths and mentors. In her closing speech, Ms. Leung remarked: “It’s truly inspiring to see the dedication and effort these 24 young people have put into their advocacy projects over the past months. Although the collaborative process was demanding, it also provided priceless growth opportunities.”She highlighted that graduation marks not the end but a new beginning, urging participants to apply their learning in their studies, careers, and daily lives, while continuing to explore their roles and core values in climate advocacy.

Although the Climate Advocacy Training For Youth (CATY) 2025 Programme has ended, the participants will continue to strengthen their community advocacy efforts and broaden their initiatives to an international perspective, urging the public to confront the climate crisis.
