Aberdeen Technical School: Green Career Human Library
“Human Library” originated in Denmark, aiming to create an open and equal platform for dialogues. People from different ethnic, religious, cultural, or social backgrounds participate as “books”, which “readers” can “borrow” to learn about their experiences and life stories.
CarbonCare InnoLab(CCIL) organised a Green Career Human Library for Aberdeen Technical School (ATS) on 30 June 2025. Guest speakers working in various green industries were invited to share their experiences with S4 and S5 students. Through this event, we aim to inspire students to deepen their understanding of environmental issues, as well as to inform their future studies and career choices.
This was our second year running the event for ATS. This year’s guest speakers included:
- Eric Swinton, Founder & CEO of V Cycle
- Chan Ka Ming, Director of E Farm Biotech and Alice Cheuk, Communications Specialist of E Farm Biotech
- Jade Wong, Co-founder of WORKSHEET STUDIO
- Jacky Chan, Project Coordinator of Repair Café
- Ivan Choi, Business Development & Investor Relations Manager of i2cool
- Jasmine Siu, Senior Education Officer of A Plastic Ocean Foundation
- Ivan Yau, Certified Arborist (ISA) with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
- Ken Tai, Project Manager of CCIL and Solar Engineer
The event was held in the school hall, where the guest speakers sat in a circle of chairs, allowing students to form groups and ask questions with guidance from CCIL's facilitators. There were three rounds of discussions, and students could switch groups to meet different guests according to their interests.
Here are some excerpts from students’ feedback:
“(I learned that) insects can be eaten and also have different uses, such as in hand soap and detergent.”
“I learned about the importance of recycling for the planet.”
“Hong Kong’s solar panel recycling is still not fully developed.”
“I learned about the principle behind heat dissipation coating。”
“Different forms of electricity, various methods of power generation, and their respective benefits.”
“I learned not to be afraid of failure and to try different fields.”
“Keep learning, and life becomes more interesting.”
Some students asked the guests about their views on environmental issues, such as paper tableware and implementation of municipal solid waste charging (MSW charging), how their organisations survive, and salary levels in the industry. We hope this event helped students gain a better understanding of green industries and inspired them in their career planning.
