Solar InnoWorkshop (Online): DIY Solar Light Jar

Global warming has caused extreme weather around the world. Heat waves, heavy rains, and forest fires occur from time to time. It coincides with the Global Day of Climate Action on the day of the "Solar Light Jar Workshop". Mr. Chong Chan Yau, Co-founder & CEO of the CarbonCare InnoLab said, ‘I also remind everyone that carbon reduction is everyone's responsibility. Even if you are in Hong Kong, if you take part in carbon reduction, you can contribute to global carbon reduction. In addition to benefiting the present generation, it can continue to future generations.’

The change started with small living habits. A group of participants started to make solar lights under the guidance of their tutors, and took practical actions to reduce carbon emission. The tutors provided two basic patterns of Trojan Horse and Rose for reference, but most of the students were creative and created their own patterns. One of the participants used the ocean as the theme and painted a brightly colored fish swimming freely in the sea, making the viewer feel as if they were in a beautiful underwater world, which was impressive. Another student was meticulous about the pattern requirements, hoping to wipe out the unsatisfactory patterns and start over. Seeing the seriousness and diligence of the students, the tutors suggested that the students make good use of the remaining paint to paint on another glass bottle and make the best use of them.

The solar panel of the light jar can absorb sunlight to charge the battery, making the string of lights glow. The life of the string of lights is up to 25,000 hours and is very durable. The beautiful string of lights with painted glass bottles is really environmentally friendly, beautiful and durable. The light jar can be transformed into decorations for home furnishings, and can be used as mid-autumn lanterns.

With the successful conclusion of the "SolarCare InnoWorkshop", this series of solar energy innovation workshops has temporarily stopped. We believe that everyone's attention to environmental protection will not stop. We hope to organise a new round of workshops for everyone in the near future.
