In order to encourage the development of renewable energy, the Hong Kong government launched the "Feed-in Tariff" program in October 2018. Until the end of 2033, two Hong Kong electricity companies will purchase electricity from household owners who install solar photovoltaic systems at a price higher than the market price to make investment. The payback period of solar energy has been greatly reduced, which brings incentives for private investment in solar energy. The purpose of the plan is to reduce carbon emissions, thereby mitigating climate change.

As far as schools are concerned, installing solar power systems will not only allow schools to gain subsidies from feed-in tariffs, but also enable students to learn about renewable energy. Schools can integrate solar power systems into teaching to enhance students' interest in exploring science, and to strengthen teachers and students' environmental awareness and understanding of its importance, so as to promote environmental protection messages to relatives and friends around them and build sustainable communities.

However, there are still schools that not taking the first step to install the system. The reasons include: high cost, long payback period, not knowing the application procedures, not knowing how to select contractors, having questions about the technology, and feeling that the investment is risky.

In order to increase the use of renewable energy in Hong Kong and contribute to the mitigation of climate change, CarbonCare InnoLab will hold a "Solar Energy Consultation Dialogue(online)" to schools, where engineers with rich experience in solar system engineering will share their experience with the school. We will provide professional advice to schools interested in installing the system to assist in the installation of solar systems. Not only that, after the Dialogue, if schools interested in installing the system want to obtain professional advice, they can contact us. We will provide free consultation services for limited groups, including procedures for applying for "feed-in tariff", site inspections, and provision of information on installing the system, Professional advice on selecting contractors and supervising works, etc. If all sectors of Hong Kong work together to install solar photovoltaic systems, it is expected that renewable energy can meet up to 10.7% of Hong Kong's total electricity demand!
