“COP30 Hong Kong Youth Statement on Climate Actions” Press Conference

Six CarbonCare InnoLab COP30 Youth Delegates - Ivan Lai, Karis Chung, Katy Cheng, Sharon Lau, Nicole Lau and Sabrina Lee - held a press conference on 19 October to present the jointly written COP30 Hong Kong Youth Statement on Climate Actions, urging the Hong Kong Government to strengthen its climate actions.

Over the past decade, CarbonCare InnoLab has been committed to advancing climate justice, with one of its core missions being to empower local youth to engage in climate advocacy and action actively. The six youth delegates will bring their advocacy to the international stage, participating in climate negotiations and sharing Hong Kong’s climate policies, perspectives, and proposals for enhanced action.

The COP30 Hong Kong Youth Statement on Climate Actions outlines six key advocacy points:

  1. Institute a human-centric adaptation and climate resilience framework to safeguard lives, protect vulnerable communities, and strengthen social wellbeing

  2. Empower Youth Participation and Development in the Face of Climate Change

  3. Advancing Nature-based Solutions and Ecosystem Conservation in Hong Kong

  4. Integrating Climate Considerations into Urban Development for a Sustainable and Resilient Future

  5. Develop a Renewable Energy-centred Energy Transition Roadmap

  6. Accelerating Climate Finance for Resilience and Net-Zero in Hong Kong

The delegates come from diverse backgrounds, including university students and young professionals working in fields such as law, sustainable urban planning, environmental management and technology, green finance, and energy research. CarbonCare InnoLab hopes that these youth delegates will gain valuable global insights during their experience and, upon returning to Hong Kong, will enhance climate advocacy efforts across various sectors.
