This side event at COP29 delved into the critical role of technology transfer and capacity-building in advancing climate action, particularly in developing countries. Discussions emphasised how innovative technologies, such as clean energy solutions and climate-smart agriculture, can enhance both adaptation and mitigation efforts, underscoring the need to strengthen local capacities for sustainable technology management.

Marco, CarbonCare InnoLab’s youth delegate highlighted the pivotal role of technology in fostering productivity and resilience to climate change, outlining the disparities in technology generation and deployment between developed and developing countries. He stressed the importance of training and knowledge exchange programs to ensure the effective utilisation of new technologies for sustainable solutions.

The event also explored how the implementation of key innovative climate technologies can stabilise the prices of essential resources and mitigate risks associated with global warming and extreme weather events. Speakers highlighted the importance of local government and community engagement in financing, deploying, and managing technologies in developing countries, which was underscored by the sustainable agricultural mechanisation case study in China.

Successful case studies demonstrating the impact of technology transfer on emissions reduction and climate resilience were highlighted, aiming to promote international cooperation and outline pathways for equitable access to resources and knowledge crucial for effective climate solutions. By shaping discussions within the Paris Agreement framework, the outcomes of this session are poised to significantly contribute to global climate efforts and accelerate progress towards sustainable and inclusive climate action.
