Solar InnoWorkshop : DIY Solar Wood Watch

2020-06-20

The SolarCare Inno Workshop actively promotes environmental protection, with the goal of bringing clean solar energy to the daily lives of Hong Kong citizens. This time, we also collaborated with the Hong Kong brand "Wood Watch" to make unique solar watches with everyone! In this workshop, tutors Leon and Robin led the participants to create simple and beautiful watches. The unique feature of this watch is that it is equipped with a solar movement to drive the timepiece with light energy. The watch body is made of recycled wood, which can be regarded as the leader of environmental protection watches. The workshop is held on June 20th-the day before Father's Day, and the finished product can be given as a gift to the father.

What is gratifying is that after the cancellation of the restraint order, we can finally put aside the rules for indoor gatherings and welcome the first physical workshop for the first time in half a year. With excitement, the participants arrived at the event venue in Kwai Fong on time. As the organizer, we did not relax and took each student's temperature one by one. After ensuring that the temperature of all participants was normal, the event was kicked off by Tina, the representative from the CarbonCare InnoLab, to introduce the content of the "SolarCare Program". After that, the tutor began to explain the structure and principles of the watch carefully, and then assisted each student to assemble the watch. When dealing with the installation of delicate parts such as hours, minutes, and seconds, everyone controls their tools carefully. In the face of precision craftsmanship that has never been tried, everyone is not afraid of challenges and enjoys it. Finally, everyone carefully adjusted the time error of the movement according to the instructions of the tutor, successfully completed the process, and personally created this art piece with both appearance and function. In addition to the watch body, students also have the opportunity to make exclusive storage wooden boxes. At the end of the event, everyone fixed the wedge of the wooden board with a hammer. The atmosphere of the audience suddenly became lively. After the completion, everyone could not wait to take a picture of the work. The sound of joy ended successfully.

Many participants found the event interesting, fun and meaningful. Some participants reported that "the tutor's explanation was clear and humorous. The workshop made me want to protect the trees more." Some participants also said "I am very happy to be able to use the sun to integrate into life."

In addition to watches, we have also introduced small solar lights, fans and other solar energy and environmental protection objects, so as to let everyone understand that different areas of daily life are good times for us to make good use of renewable energy and practice carbon reduction. Time waits for no one, follow our trends immediately and start a green life together!
