Solar InnoWorkshop x Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School: DIY Solar Charger

2019-11-06

The first Solar InnoWorkshop was held on November 6, 2019 at the Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School. 16 students made solar chargers that day.

The Solar Charger includes a small solar panel, battery, wires, conversion interfaces and USB slots. After the solar panel absorbs sunlight, it can be converted into alternating current(AC) by direct current(DC) and stored in the built-in battery through the control circuit. The battery will store the current, which is convenient for users to use the charger continuously when there is no sunlight. The solar charger uses solar energy as the power source, which is convenient and environmentally friendly!

The workshop started after the instructor's brief explanation. Students listened carefully to the instructor's explanation and the steps to avoid missing any step. We provide colorful fabrics for students to wrap the battery part of the charger to make the charger more appealing. Students are excited to choose the fabric they like and created the ideal portable charger step by step.

Although the making process is complicated, all of the students completed it. Through this workshop, on the one hand, they can familiarise themselves with the STEM theory learned. On the other hand, they can absorb new knowledge about renewable energy, and they can personally make their own solar products and experience new and unique experiences. Some students said the activity was fun and environmentally friendly.

CarbonCare InnoLab hopes to continue to bring more solar-powered electronic appliances to everyone, which is convenient for daily use, and also truly plays an environmentally friendly function.
