Po Leung Kuk was established in 1878. “Po Leung”, translating literally as protection of the young and the innocent, represents the core vision of the organisation. Formally established as the Society for the Protection of Women and Children in 1880, they have prevented and resolved kidnappings, protected destitute women and children, and assisted the Secretary for Chinese Affairs (under British Rule) as a mediator in complex family and marriage disputes.
In line with the economic development of Hong Kong over the past century, the range of services and coverage they provided to the community constantly expanded as welfare needs evolved. Today, Po Leung Kuk is Hong Kong’s leading social service organisation and fundraiser.
The Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp was officially opened in April 1979, covering an area of approximately 500,000 square feet. It offers services including overnight camping, day camps, and adventure programs. The facilities initially comprised seven group camps, a gymnasium, an administration building, and a dining hall; later, four family camps and other recreational and sports facilities were added. The camp provides a wide variety of activities such as archery, cycling, and golf. It also regularly conducts educational activities, including eco-canoeing trips, workshops on mosquito-repellent cones made from coffee grounds and wormwood, and upcycling workshops for drink carton coin purses, aiming to raise participants' awareness of environmental protection and sustainability.
A total of 325 solar photovoltaic(PV) panels were installed on the rooftops of Sport Pavilion, Central Dining Hall and Jockey Club Block, with a system capacity of 193.38 kWp. The estimated power generation in the first year is 248,835 kWh.

It is a common practice to install solar panels on concrete blocks. The friction of the blocks helps to secure the panels on top.
The solar panels were secured by concrete blocks on the rooftop.
The weather station mounted on the stands of the PV panels collects irradiance and ambient temperature data, which allows engineers to examine the performance of the system from the detected data. It could also be used for taking preventive measures, monitoring potential risks and making timely corrections to the system if necessary.
