Outward Bound Hong Kong (OBHK) has been providing safe and challenging training for Hong Kong people for the past 50 years through a variety of individual and group outdoor activities that stimulate the mind and body. Their courses allow participants to discover their potential, build confidence and strengthen their will.
The Outward Bound Tai Mong Tsai Base by the sea in Sai Kung is a site with a scenic view. We have installed a total of 426 solar photovoltaic(PV) panels on the rooftop of 5 of their buildings, with a system capacity of 171.69 kW and the power generation in the first year was 196,213 kWh.
Mr Nick Cotton, Executive Director of OBHK, said, “Our main source of income is from organising outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the epidemic this year (2021) caused our income to decrease. Fortunately, with the help of the Jockey Club SolarCare Programme, we received the passive income generated from electricity production, which helps us to go through this difficult period. It is a timely relief for us.”

The rooftop solar photovoltaic(PV) system is not only used to generate electricity, but its sloped platform design also provides insulation and water drainage.. As the campsite is located by the sea and is susceptible to corrosion from marine salt-spray, aluminum brackets are used to prevent corrosion, minimising the impact of environmental factors on the systems.
The campsite is close to the sea, depicting a picturesque scenery.

We have installed a Fall Arrest system on the roof of Staff Block 3 to ensure the safety of maintenance workers.

Some of the meter boxes are located outdoors, therefore the box is made with waterproof material.
