【Green Recovery Webinar】The Future of Green Transportation
Transportation accounts for one-fourth of global carbon emission. This has aggravated climate change, worsened air pollution and also harms our health. During pandemic, there is a decrease in road traffic, leading to a reduction of carbon emissions. However, it would the numbers are likely to rebound when economic activities resume to normal. Therefore, the development of green transportation is of the main focuses of green recovery.
Imagine our buses, minibuses, vans, private cars and other types of transportation are all ran by electricity when electric vehicles are widely used in Hong Kong. We would have cleaner air. People may be more motivated to walk instead of ride/drive. With better road planning, the safety of bicycle users could be ensured. When transportation demand management is well managed, traffic congestion would be reduced and commuting time would decrease. These factors contribute to a more livable city. The HKSAR Government announced the formulation of “ Hong Kong's first roadmap on the popularisation of EV” and its plan to launch a pilot scheme for electric public light buses in the” 2020-21 Budget”. We hope the day of zero-carbon transportation would come very soon!
For this webinar, we have invited Mr Patrick Fung, Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Air Network to share with us the global trend of green transportation, analysis of the policy in Hong Kong and share case studies.
