Kwai Chung Low Carbon Community Action 2.0 Group 2 Phase 1 Visit - Collecting Environmental Data

CarbonCare InnoLab conducted "Energy Care Community Action - Kwai Chung '' programme launches a brand-new community education project, aiming at the community to practice climate adjustment and climate justice, and build a community with high climate resilience. Kwai Chung District is our first community goal. It is hoped that in the future, other areas of Hong Kong can be developed to promote low-carbon life and practice climate justice. This service targets are elderly people living alone. We hope that more people in need will be benefited when the project develops more mature.

CarbonCare InnoLab and Carties Kwai Chung Residents’ Mental Aid Centre carried out the first phase visit to the second group of subdivided housing households on 5 June. Before the visit, our staff explained various types of environmental data to be collected in the subdivided housing living places and the collecting methods. Also, we demonstrated the use of different apparatus including a light meter, thermo-hygrometer. Apart from collecting environmental data, low carbon community leaders had conversations with the subdivided housing households proactively to know about their daily lives and recent struggles on the living environment.

Majority of the respondents thought that their living conditions were unsatisfactory because of low luminosity of lights, high humidity, hot weather and bad air quality in their house. Besides, they lack knowledge toward LED lighting. Some also indicated that there is a need for maintenance and replacement of ventilation fans. Hence, they hope the living environment will be improved after repairing different electrical appliances such as LED lighting installation.
